Video: The Intelligence Revolution

Strategists at Wells Fargo Investment Institute explore the potential risks and rewards investors should consider during the intelligence revolution.

Video Transcript

Two hundred years ago, the world was in the midst of an agricultural revolution. The introduction of new tools and machinery for planting and harvesting transformed farming, reducing the need for many jobs traditionally done by hand.

Since then, the science of AgTech has steadily improved, helping growers produce more food, more efficiently. That, in turn, has helped improve the quality of life for people all around the world.

Throughout history, much of what has driven the development of new technology has been the need to discover better solutions. Solutions that save time, create more efficiency, or improve health and safety.

Today, we are on the verge of another revolution that we believe has the potential to create even greater benefits for us and further improve our quality of life—it’s the intelligence revolution.

We believe this revolution will be driven by advances in computing power, robotics, decentralized ledgers, and artificial intelligence.

Advances that could impact every sector, from Health Care and Information Technology, to traditional sectors like Industrials and Materials. So, why is that important?

Because once a new form of technology exists, it can transform the marketplace. Which in turn could lead to competitive advantages for early adopters and a new source of potential returns for investors.

Of course, new technologies can also create new kinds of risks for companies—risks such as privacy issues and cyber threats. Yet, even so, we expect innovations from the intelligence revolution to be an important long-term story for investors, one that holds potential opportunity over the next 10 to 20 years.

So, to learn more about where we see potential risks and rewards in the coming intelligence revolution, and how your portfolio could benefit from changes already underway…
